The Art of Exquisite Ribbonry

Julien Faure's expertise

Since 1864, the JULIEN FAURE house has been weaving its history into the fabric of time.

In Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert, the historical birthplace of ribbon-making, the factory houses expertise where each step prolongs the memory of the gesture. Here, shuttle looms perpetuate a patient mechanics, while textile engineering opens up new horizons.

From the first thread to the final ribbon, the material transforms, densifies, and balances. What is created in our workshops goes beyond simple manufacturing: it is a construction, designed to last, to be worn, to accompany.

The treasures of the workshop

At the heart of the workshop, shuttle looms beat a steady rhythm.

This controlled slowness is not a default choice, but a necessity. It is the only way for the threads to interlace precisely, to position themselves, to stretch, until they form a perfect structure.

Little by little, the material is built. Each pass of the shuttle, each adjustment, each tension contributes to an overall balance, where mechanics and hand work in unison.

It is in this precision that the true selvedge is born: a woven edge, dense and snag-proof, the signature of a ribbon designed as a whole, without breaks or weaknesses.

In this controlled interweaving, weaving becomes an architecture.

The excellence of Jacquard weaving

In Jacquard weaving, each thread acts independently.

This fine control over the interweaving allows for the creation of raised textures, subtle gradients, and complex weaves, directly integrated into the ribbon's structure.

This technique also enables specific constructions, such as tubular weaving or double-sided ribbons, where the front and back develop distinct expressions, without compromising durability or precision.

  • Creation & Card Mapping

It all starts in the design office, the Research and Development department of our creative division.

Our pattern designers translate artistic inspiration into machine language using software specifically designed to meet the constraints of our trades and Jacquard weaving.

It's a true work of textile architecture: each thread intersection is programmed to bring the design to life, ensuring pattern precision to within a tenth of a millimeter.

  • The Art of Preparation

Before weaving, the crucial warping stage involves preparing thousands of warp threads with perfectly identical tension.

It's a behind-the-scenes craft that tolerates no errors: a single tension variation, and the ribbon will show a defect along its entire length.

  • The Alchemy of Materials

Our R&D workshop pushes the boundaries of textiles.

We combine noble heritage (silk, cotton, etc.) with pure performance, sometimes even weaving with technical and innovative materials.

A memory in motion

At JULIEN FAURE, weaving is not just learned, it's passed down.

From workshop to workshop, from generation to generation, the same sense of detail and precision circulates, nurtured by experience and observation.

This know-how, deeply rooted in the region, continues to evolve with changing uses, without ever losing what makes it unique.

This sum of gestures has earned us the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (EPV - Living Heritage Company) label from the French State since 2009.

By choosing a JULIEN FAURE product, you are not just choosing an accessory. You are supporting an exceptional industry, a local employment area in the Loire region, and a certain idea of French manufacturing.

Finishing & Quality Control

Once it comes off the loom, the ribbon is not yet finished.

It then goes through the expert hands of our finishers for specific treatments, from cutting and sewing to hot calendering, which will give it its final "handfeel."

Finally, comes the ultimate step: quality control.

Every meter produced is inspected with the naked eye. The slightest weaving defect is spotted and discarded.

In the world of luxury and professional equipment, approximation has no place.
